ExploreIf you want your African holiday to make a real and lasting difference to both people and planet, it all starts with a simple choice – “where do I go?”
Fair Trade Tourism certifies tourism products in South Africa, Mozambique and Madagascar and has mutual recognition agreements with partner certification programmes across Africa.
This means that you can travel the Fair Trade way with ease and include everything from budget-busting backpackers to luxury safari lodges in your itinerary, enjoying activities like shark cage diving, para-gliding, museum visits and township tours along the way.
Mutual recognitionFair Trade Tourism’s mutual recognition agreements with existing, like-minded certification programmes across Africa are helping to benchmark global best practice in sustainable tourism on the continent. A mutual recognition agreement (MRA) allows products certified under the partner programme to be packaged as part of the Fair Trade Holiday brand by Fair Trade Tourism Approved tour operators. A Fair Trade Holiday is one in which at least 50% of the package’s bed nights are spent in Fair Trade Tourism certified or mutually recognised properties and can include certified activities as well.
